Are you planning to travel to Morocco in the car of a family member, friend or acquaintance? Then it is important that you have an official authorization with you. This authorization is mandatory as soon as you travel with a private car that is not in your name. So it does not matter if the car belongs to your father, mother, brother, sister or a close friend; if you are not the owner, you must be able to prove that you have permission to use the vehicle.

Moroccan customs strictly check this upon arrival. Do you not have a valid authorization? Then you run the risk of being refused entry into the country. This is something you obviously want to avoid.

Applicable to private vehicles only.

The information in this blog applies to private vehicles only. Is the car a lease car or is it in the name of a company? Then different rules apply and an additional or different procedure is required. A standard private authorization is not sufficient in that case. If in doubt, contact Arabika for advice.

When is legalization required?

If the owner of the car is a Moroccan national, it is mandatory to have the authorization legalized at a Moroccan consulate. This legalization can only be arranged by appointment. Please note that especially during the summer months, waiting times for this can be long.

In practice, we recommend that you always have your authorization legalized, even when the consulate indicates that it may not be required. Without a legalized authorization, Moroccan customs may still refuse you at the border. Avoid unnecessary risks and arrange for legalization well in advance.

Have your authorization properly prepared through Arabika.

Want to make sure your authorization meets the official requirements of the Moroccan authorities? Then have it drawn up at one of our Arabika offices. You can come by without an appointment. Our staff will prepare the authorization for you according to the appropriate guidelines, so you can travel with peace of mind.

Does the authorization need to be legalized afterwards? Then all you need to do is make an appointment at the Moroccan consulate. We will make sure you leave with the right papers.

Don't forget the other documents.

In addition to the authorization, you will need other documents when traveling to Morocco with a vehicle, such as:

  • The original registration certificate of the vehicle
  • Your valid passport
  • Your driver's license
  • Your car insurance green card

These documents are often checked at the same time as the authorization. So make sure you have everything complete before you leave.

Carefree on the road with Arabika.

With a proper authorization, correct documents and - if necessary - legalization at the consulate, you can travel to Morocco in someone else's car without any problems. Do you have questions or need help in preparing the authorization? Feel free to stop by one of our offices. You are welcome without an appointment, or choose to schedule an appointment directly through our website.

We wish you a safe, pleasant and worry-free trip to Morocco in advance!
